Knowledge

Social platforms crop and compress differently: Stories and Reels prefer 9:16, feed posts often use 1:1 or 4:5, YouTube thumbnails are typically 16:9, and networks like X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest each have their own recommended sizes. Preparing a social pack and a sensible export size before upload avoids surprise cuts and oversized files.

  • Exports use MozJPEG, WebP, and OxiPNG in the browser for high quality with strong compression — pick format in the export modal.
  • JPEG/WebP are lossy at high quality by default; PNG stays lossless then OxiPNG-optimised.

FAQs

What does Image Optimiser do?

Reframe photos to the size you need, resize for lighter uploads, and compress exports for the web — especially social. You can also build platform packs for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and more. Everything runs in your browser.

Can I process multiple images at once?

Yes. Import up to 20 photos. Pick multiple standard sizes or social formats per photo, frame each in the preview, then save that photo — or use Download all packs under the cards for the whole queue.

How do I reframe what I want?

Drag the rectangle on the photo to choose what stays. Use the corner and edge handles to resize. Presets lock the aspect ratio; Custom lets you reshape freely. With multiple sizes selected, step through them with the arrows under the preview.

What does rescale do?

After you frame the shot, turn on Rescale and set a target width or height. The other side follows the crop aspect so you export smaller files without redoing the frame — useful before uploading to social.

How do social packs work?

Turn on “Crop for social media”, pick platforms, frame each size in the preview, then choose Download social pack for that photo. Download all packs (under the cards) builds one zip: standard crops as flat files, social crops in a folder per photo.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Reframing, resizing, compression, and export run entirely in your browser. The file never leaves this device.

Which aspect ratios are included?

Presets cover Stories/Reels (9:16), Square (1:1), Landscape (16:9), Portrait (4:5), and Classic (5:4), plus custom width and height. Social packs use platform-specific sizes for each selected network.

Which formats can I export?

JPEG, PNG, and WebP via the export modal. JPEG uses MozJPEG and WebP uses libwebp for strong compression at high visual quality. PNG stays lossless and is then OxiPNG-optimised. Animated GIFs export the first frame only. Social packs use the same format inside the zip.

Will compression ruin my photo?

Defaults aim for sharp results with much smaller files than a plain canvas save. Raise the quality slider when you need near-lossless photos, or pick PNG for pixel-perfect graphics. Exports use ImageOptim / TinyPNG–style codecs in your browser (MozJPEG, WebP, OxiPNG).

Can I open HEIC photos from iPhone?

Safari often opens HEIC. On Chrome and Firefox, convert to JPEG or PNG first, or AirDrop/share as JPEG.
