Knowledge

Spot-derived prices reflect the current market for fine metal. Gold grades (18K–24K) scale by karat ÷ 24; silver purities (999, 925, 900, 800) scale by parts per thousand.

Troy ounce. Precious metals trade per troy ounce (~31.1035 g), not the everyday avoirdupois ounce. The spotlight shows both per-gram and per-troy-ounce figures.

Retail vs reference. Jewellery shops add making charges, premiums, taxes, and spreads. Use these rates for planning and comparison — your counter quote may differ.

Rates come from the same shared bundle as Zakat Calculator and Currency Converter, with a timestamp when metals were last updated.

FAQs

Where do gold and silver prices come from?

Spot-derived per-gram prices are loaded from the shared Dab Tools prices bundle (the same file used by Zakat Calculator and Currency Converter). The hero and footer show when metals were last updated when that timestamp is available.

What do the per-gram prices represent?

Gold lists 18K through 24K; silver lists 999, 925, 900, and 800. Each value is spot-derived for 1 gram of that grade in your selected currency (fine metal × karat/24 or purity/1000). Retail quotes may differ because of making charges, premiums, taxes, or spreads.

How is jewellery value estimated?

Enter a weight and choose gold karat or silver purity. The tool converts troy ounces to grams when needed, applies the same purity rules as Zakat Calculator (gold: karat ÷ 24; silver: purity ÷ 1000), then multiplies by the spot price per gram for your selected currency.

What is a troy ounce?

Precious metals are often quoted per troy ounce (about 31.1035 grams), not the everyday avoirdupois ounce. The spotlight shows both per-gram and per-troy-ounce spot prices for convenience.

Why do I see an error or empty table?

The bundle must include a currencies object with gold and silver per gram. For local development, run the project’s rates refresh and asset sync steps. In production, confirm prices.json is served at the configured bundle URL.

Is my data stored or sent to a server?

Calculations run in your browser. Weights and currency choices are not uploaded. Only the rates file is fetched from the site (or your configured bundle URL).
