Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how dab.tools ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you visit our website and use our free calculators and converters — including the hub at dab.tools, tools under /tool/ (such as Zakat, currency, percentage, BMI, age, work hours, gold & silver rates, Hijri date, and others we publish), and related pages (About, Contact, Privacy, and Terms).

Core principle: calculator and converter inputs are processed in your browser. We do not receive, store, or profile the figures you enter into those tools on our servers.

You do not need an account to use dab.tools. We do not sell your personal information.

Each tool is a web application that loads in your browser. When you enter amounts, dates, assets, health metrics, or other values, that data stays on your device for the purpose of showing results. We do not upload those entries to dab.tools for storage, analytics profiling, or advertising.

Some tools may keep temporary state in your browser (for example, session storage or local storage) so the page works as you expect — such as remembering a country selection or form progress. That data remains under your browser's control unless you clear site data or use a private browsing mode.

If you export a file (for example, a spreadsheet) or copy results, you choose where that file or text goes. We do not access exported files.

We only receive personal or identifying information when you actively submit it:

• Contact page: name, email address, subject, and message. These are sent to our mail server so we can respond. The page URL may be included for context.
• Bug reports and feature requests (from in-tool modals): a short summary, details you provide, an optional email address if you want a reply, and contextual metadata such as which tool you were using and the page URL. We do not ask you to include calculator inputs in these forms.

Please do not send sensitive financial, health, or religious information through contact or feedback forms unless you are comfortable sharing it with our support inbox.

Before your message is sent, our forms may ask your browser to complete a short proof-of-work check (see Spam protection (ALTCHA) below). That check runs on your device and on our servers only — not through a third-party captcha provider.

Like most websites, our hosting provider may record standard server logs when you request a page or file. This can include your IP address, browser type, requested URL, and approximate timing. We use this only for security, abuse prevention, and operating the site — not to reconstruct what you typed into a calculator.

Some tools download a public rates bundle (for example, prices.json for foreign-exchange and precious-metal reference prices). That request fetches the same shared file for all users; it does not include your calculator inputs.

We do not use third-party advertising networks or behavioural analytics products such as Google Analytics on dab.tools.

To understand how dab.tools is used — for example which pages are visited and whether navigation works — we run Umami, a privacy-oriented analytics tool, on infrastructure we control (matrix.dab.tools). Umami is open-source and designed to collect only aggregated usage data, not to build advertising profiles.

What Umami may record: page URL, referrer, browser and device type, operating system, screen size band, approximate country or region (derived from connection metadata), and language. It does not receive calculator inputs, form message content, or your name or email unless you submit a contact or feedback form separately.

Privacy-focused choices we make: we self-host Umami (data stays on our systems, not a third-party analytics SaaS), we do not use it for ads or cross-site tracking, and we configure it in a cookieless way for visitors.

Umami data is used only to operate and improve dab.tools (reliability, content, and accessibility). We do not sell Umami analytics data.

Contact, bug-report, and feature-request forms use ALTCHA, a privacy-first, self-hosted proof-of-work check to reduce automated spam. When enabled, your browser fetches a challenge from dab.tools, performs a short calculation locally, and sends a signed result with your form submission.

What ALTCHA does not do: it does not use Google reCAPTCHA or other third-party captcha services, does not set cookies for visitors, and does not fingerprint your device for advertising.

What may be processed: standard request metadata (such as IP address and timing) in our server logs when you request a challenge or submit a form, plus the cryptographic proof attached to your submission so we can verify it was completed.

dab.tools is designed to work without sign-in cookies for visitors. Our staff admin area (not used by the public) uses session cookies for authentication only.

Umami is configured cookielessly for visitors, as described above. ALTCHA does not rely on cookies. Contact and feedback forms include a hidden honeypot field for bots; it does not store data in your browser.

Your browser may still store ordinary site data (cache, local storage) so pages load quickly and tools function correctly. You can limit or clear cookies and site data through your browser settings.

• To deliver pages, tools, and shared assets to your browser.
• To respond to contact messages and support requests you send us.
• To measure aggregated site usage through self-hosted Umami analytics so we can improve dab.tools — without selling that data or using it for advertising.
• To verify form submissions with self-hosted ALTCHA proof-of-work and reduce spam and abuse.
• To maintain security, fix bugs, and improve reliability and accessibility.
• To comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service where necessary.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not share calculator inputs with third parties because we do not collect them on our servers.

We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate dab.tools — for example, website hosting, email delivery (Mailjet), and domain services — only as needed to provide the service and subject to appropriate safeguards.

Contact and feedback messages are retained in our email systems for as long as needed to handle your request and for reasonable business, legal, or security purposes, after which they are deleted or archived according to our practices.

Server logs are kept for a limited period appropriate for security and troubleshooting.

Calculator data remains on your device unless you clear it or leave the site.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information we hold about you (typically information you submitted via Contact or feedback forms, or data in server logs).

California (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell personal information. California residents may request information about categories of data we process, deletion, or correction, subject to legal exceptions.

California (CalOPPA)

This policy identifies what we collect, how we use it, and how to contact us about privacy questions.

EEA and UK (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on legitimate interests and contractual necessity to operate the site and respond to enquiries.

Canada (PIPEDA)

We follow fair information principles including accountability, identifying purposes, limiting collection, and safeguards appropriate to sensitivity.

Australia (Privacy Act 1988)

We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, including transparency, data minimisation, and access or correction where applicable.

dab.tools may be accessed from many countries. Information you submit may be processed on servers located outside your country. Where required, we take reasonable steps intended to protect personal information in line with applicable law.

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; use dab.tools at your own risk for highly sensitive matters.

dab.tools is not directed at children under 13 (or a higher age where local law requires). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of dab.tools after changes means you accept the updated policy.
